Within the scope of the current DLG quality test for spirits, which was carried out together with the IfGB Berlin, the variety “Warming Cinnamon” from the monastery distillery Wöltingerode could achieve a special success. In the category of herbal and spiced liqueurs, the specialty was awarded “Best Spirit 2021”.
For years, the Wöltingeroder cinnamon liqueur has been one of the most sought-after products of the traditional Harz company – not only in the autumn and winter season. The spirit, which bears the traditional name “St. Nikolaus”, is characterized by its spicy aroma, a fine sweetness and the combination of exotic warmth and native ingredients at 25%vol. off. For its outstanding quality, the liqueur was again awarded the gold medal of the DLG in 2021.
Like all spirits from the monastery distillery founded in 1682, the “Warming Cinnamon” is handcrafted from wheat from the monastery’s own fields and spring water from the monastery well in copper stills. A special treat recommendation is traditionally the “Nönnchen mit Haube” – for this, the Wöltingero or cinnamon liqueur is warmed and topped with a cream topping.
